The Federal Ministry of Transport has officially inaugurated its Freedom of Information (FoI) Act implementation committee with a charge to its members to adhere strictly to guidelines governing the compliance with the Act.
The Federal Ministry of Transport has officially inaugurated its Freedom of Information (FoI) Act implementation committee with a charge to its members to adhere strictly to guidelines governing the compliance with the Act.
Inaugurating the committee at the ministry recently, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Engr Nebolisa Emodi said that following the passage into law of the Act, it has become imperative on all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to set up their own implementation committees, even as he enjoined members of the committee to understand that regardless of the FoI Act, there is still need to ensure confidentiality in Government business, especially when requests are not properly routed.
Emodi also enjoined the committee to always endeavour to respond timely to genuine requests from members of the public and urged the members to be fully abreast of the provision of the Act to ensure full understanding of their responsibilities.
Responding on behalf of members, Dr Viashima Iorwuese, who stood in for the chairman of the implementation committee said that the intentions of the Government are clear on the implementation of the Act and promised that the committee will carry out the assignment assiduously.
Members of the committee are: Mr.Sam Anako, Mrs Janet chris Abassah, mr Godwin Okereke, Mr Vincent Ochai, Mrs Tonia Eremah, Mr Omini Okoi , Mr Onwukwe Ikechukwu. Mrs Brenda Max-Nduaguibe will serve as the secretary.
