Formerly called Institute of Freight Forwarders of Nigeria (IFFN) ;before it metamorphosis to NIFF and then to NIFFCB,Ikokide revealed recently that there is the need to sensitize stakeholders in the maritime sector about the change of name , as part of its re-branding process.

Formerly called Institute of Freight Forwarders of Nigeria (IFFN) ;before it metamorphosis to NIFF and then to NIFFCB,Ikokide revealed recently that there is the need to sensitize stakeholders in the maritime sector about the change of name , as part of its re-branding process.
He said the institute changed its name when the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarders (CRFFN) accredited it as a training arm.
The institute’s president disclosed that the governing board of CRFFN said apart from the freight forwarders, there is the need to inculcate an identity that will involve the license customs agents as well.
He disclosed that, "we heard from the background that some licensed customs brokers wanted to form their own institute and that simply means that factionalisation of the institute will not go down well for the profession, hence we decided to change the name to embrace all freight forwarders; especially the customs agents and that was how the institute came up with Nigeria Institute of Freight Forwarders and Customs Brokers".
He pointed out that the new nomenclature saw the emergence of the new executive secretary who happens to be a director in CRFFN, he added that the official was seconded to the institute from the CRFFN.
Ikokide also pointed out that the institute runs four categories of training for freight agents, adding that there is the need for all associations in the freight forwarding sub sector of the maritime industry to support the institute in its re-branding process.
Ikokide further disclosed that, "when the board of the Council approved the institute as a training arm of the CRFFN, they insist that there is the need to involve all licensed customs brokers and that was part of the reasons for the change of name."
He mentioned that that also the institute runs four categories of training for freight agents which he referred to as grades of membership and they include: student membership training, associate training, full membership and fellow membership.
