World Maritime University Announces Vacancy For President

The World Maritime University (WMU) in Malmo, Sweden is seeking an experienced leader with excellent academic, managerial and resource mobilization skills to fill the position of President.

WMU

WMU was established in 1983 by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the United Nations specialized agency mandated to promote safe, secure, efficient and sustainable shipping on clean oceans.

According to the WMU, the prospective President should have excellent leadership skills, a strong commitment to academic education, experience in strategic planning and resource mobilization and a proven track record of successfully delivering change and innovation. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the ability to manage a high-level academic institution, develop effective, mutually beneficial collaboration arrangements with donors, and be familiar with the maritime industry.

The appointment will be for a fixed-term of four years, the first year of which will be probationary. The President will be eligible for reappointment, for up to another fixed-term period of four years, subject to satisfactory performance. WMU offers a competitive benefits package, free of income tax in Sweden.

According to the WMU, closing date for applications is 9 October 2022.
