Two clearing agents; Onyekachi Muoh and Chima Nwachukwu were brought to trial yesterday at an Ikeja Magistrates' Court for allegedly stealing a Toyota Corolla saloon car worth N800, 000 at the port.
Muoh, 33 and Nwachukwu, 35, who reside at Olodi-Apapa area of Lagos, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, ASP Eranus Nnamonu, said the accused committed the offences at 9.30 a.m. on Jan. 13 at Tin Can Island Port, Apapa.

He alleged that the accused stole a Toyota Corolla car with chassis no. 006146 and valued at N800, 000, property of Clarion Shipping West Africa Ltd.
According to the prosecutor, “the accused were contracted to clear the car at the port, but declared the car missing. “They could not give a satisfactory explanation on how the car missed.’’
Nnamonu noted that the offences contravened Sections 285 (1), (a), (b) and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Section 285 prescribes a three-year jail term for stealing, while Section 409 stipulates two years imprisonment for conspiracy.
Both pleaded not guilty.
Ruling on the bail application of the accused, the Magistrate, Mrs Abimbola Komolafe, granted them bail in the sum of N200, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum.
The case was adjourned to May 21 for mention.
