Although, details of the meeting which lasted for the greater part of the day were sketchy as at press time, the Customs Comptroller General, Alhaji Diko Abdulahi Inde led the Customs team, while the ANLCA team was led by the national president, Prince Olayiwola Shittu.

Apparently worried about the challenge of meeting its 2012 (unprecedented) revenue target of N1Trillion, the management of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) yesterday met with the leadership of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA).
Although, details of the meeting which lasted for the greater part of the day were sketchy as at press time, the Customs Comptroller General, Alhaji Diko Abdulahi Inde led the Customs team, while the ANLCA team was led by the national president, Prince Olayiwola Shittu.
Sources at the meeting which was described as very historic told Shipping Position Daily one of the critical issues that came up was the need for ANLCA and its members to continue to partner with the Nigeria Customs Service to meet its objectives; especially as they relate to revenue collection and trade facilitation.
The Customs boss reportedly told the licensed customs agents’ leadership that the he was not impressed by the revenue that the commands have turned in so far in the year and that he was obvious of the N1Trillion target for the year.
He was quoted as appealing to the agents to assist the service to meet the target, stressing that so far the target is not being met.
Our correspondent reliably confirmed that even though the meeting was at the instance of the Nigeria Customs Service, ANLCA attended with a large delegation of its national leadership and some chapter leaders.
Apart from the issue of revenue target, issues bordering on the need to ensure compliance without compromising trade facilitation.
“Both parties agreed to work together and do the right thing”, our source disclosed even as he stated that it was probably the first time that such a meeting would hold between the Nigeria Customs Service and ANLCA.
