Russian Captain died on board of his ship, Med
Russian 63-year old Captain died on board of the ship under his command, on Sep 1 or Aug 31, “because of natural causes”, according to preliminary report. The ship was positioned off Arish port, North Sinai, Governorate of Egypt, Sinai Peninsula. He collapsed, and died, his body was transferred to Arish Hospital for forensics, investigation and formalities requiested for sending body to Russia. Ship wasn’t identified, but as of present, there’s only one ship docked at Arish, general cargo ship GULF BLUE (IMO 9125073, dwt 4450, flag Antigua, operated by Turkish Company). She arrived at Arish anchorage on Aug 30, was berthed on Sep 1. Ship’s ID is not confirmed.
Tanker explosion, fire, 2 injured, Marmara Sea
Explosion occurred in funnel section of tanker TORC on Aug 28 during wielding maintenance works, at Bandirma, Turkey, Marmara sea. Two crew including Second Engineer were injured, and hospitalized. Bulk carrier grounded to avoid sinking after collision with LNG tanker
Bulk carrier OS 35 collided with LNG tanker ADAM LNG on Aug 29, understood at around 2000 UTC, while leaving anchorage off Gibraltar Point. ADAM LNG was anchored at the time of collision, and didn’t suffer serious damages. Bulk carrier sustained hull breach somewhere in fore asection, she developed heavy fore tilt and slight stb list, water ingress couldn’t be put under control, so the ship wastaken to the other side of the peninsula and grounded at Catalan Bay, to avoid sinking. Both ships called Gibraltar most probably, for bunkering and/or supplies, OS #% was leaving bound for, reportedly, Netherlands.as of 0530 UTC Aug 30, OS 35 AIS was on, bulk carrier being in the same position with all 24 on board, while ADAM LNG remained at anchor.
Tanker on fire in Yellow sea
Fire erupted on board of tanker TIAN SHENG YOU 2, understood on cargo deck, in the morning Sep 1 in Yellow sea NE of Yantai. Tanker was en route from Huanghua Port to Lanshan, fire reportedly was caused by fire works on cargo deck. SAR ships responded, as of afternoon Sep 2 status and condition of tanker unknown, AIS is off since 1600 UTC Sep
GRIMALDI’s ro-ro grounding in Western Scheldt
Ro-ro cargo ship GRANDE GUINEA ran aground in Western Scheldt in front of Bath, at around 0130 UTC Sep 2, while sailing downstream, en route from Antwerp to Zeebrugge. Tugs assisted, the ship was refloated at around 0300 UTC, taken upstream to Schaar van Ouden Doel anchorage. Was either anchored or in process of anchoring at 0630 UTC, with 2 tugs assisting. No reports on damages, probably none. Cause of grounding unknown, but it looks like grounding caused by some mechanical failure – the ship reduced speed and went off course.
Freighter with corn from Ukraine ran aground, refloated, Bosphorus.
General cargo ship LADY ZEHMA ran aground in Bebek Bay, Bosphorus, Istanbul, at around 1800 UTC Sep 1, was refloated at around 2140 UTC with several tugs assistance, and taken to Ahurkapi Anchorage, where she was anchored. LADY ZEHMA with cargo of corn is en route from Ukraine to Italy. Rudder failure said to be the cause of accident. No other damages reported. As of 0440 UTC Sep 2, the ship remained anchored.
