Capesize bulk carrier collided with fishing vessel off Shanghai, 11 missing
Capesize bulk carrier CAPE BRILLIANCE collided with 37-meter Chinese fishing vessel 42 nm E of Yangtze estuary at around 1830 LT (UTC +8) Oct 31. Fishing vessel sank, of 14 fishermen on board 3 were rescued, 11 went missing. SAR underway, CAPE BRILLIANCE was anchored for investigation, Bulk carrier is ballasting from Taicang (Shanghai) to Point Samson, Australia.
Passenger Vessel Ran Aground In Bohol; Crew Members Safe
A passenger vessel reportedly ran aground at the Jagna Port in Bohol when reckless winds and strong waves dragged it on Friday night, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) – Central Visayas informed.
A PCG-7 spokesperson named Ensign Jordz Emata mentioned that no injuries had been reported among the 23 members of the crew of MV Lite Ferry 1.
He said the vessel was manoeuvring close to the port to anchor when strong and reckless waves slowly dragged it at about 11:48 p.m.
Emata said the Coast Guard Station – Eastern Bohol was carefully monitoring the vessel that slightly tilted toward the side.
No oil spill had been reported as the vessel was expected to be extracted with some improvement in the weather.
Bohol was reportedly placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal Number 1 as Severe Tropical Storm Paeng whipped parts of Visayas, Luzon, and Mindanao.
Cement carrier sank in Taiwan Strait, 12 missing
Cement carrier XING SHUN NO 1 was abandoned by crew in the afternoon Oct 31 in Taiwan Strait some 35 nm SW of Taichung Taiwan, after engine failure, in rough weather conditions brought by typhoon NALGAE. Of 17 crew, 5 who went into life raft were rescued by passing container ship, 12 in lifeboat are still missing, SAR is under way. XING SHUN NO 1 was en route from Vietnam to Taichung Taiwan, she expected in Taichung in the afternoon Oct 31. As of 0500 UTC Nov 1, status and condition of the ship unknown, she might remain afloat.

Cargo ship sank, 2 dead 2 missing, disabled Capesize bulker adrift, typhoon NALGAE
Taiwanese cargo ship identified as DE XING (NO) was struck by unknown cargo ship early in the morning Oct 28 west of Penghu, Taiwan, Taiwan Strait, broke in two and sank. Of 13 crew on board, 9 were rescued, 2 were recovered dead, and 2 including Captain went missing, understood SAR is still underway, see map. DE XING was en route from Kaohsiung to Kinmen islands, understood it’s Taiwanese coastal freighter.
Bulk carrier JUNIOR lost power in the afternoon Oct 30 and drifted towards Penghu islands. She dropped anchor but couldn’t stand against strong wind, anchor dragged. As of 1500 UTC Oct 31, it looks like she’s dragging anchor and drifting towards Penghu main island. Tugs can’t assist troubled ship because of storm brought by typhoon NALGAE. JUNIOR is en route from Vietnam to Ningbo.
Crew Member Stabbed With A Knife, Another Jumped Overboard
There was a fight between two crew members of ELANDRA CORALLO on 1 November in the Coral Sea. A seaman reportedly stabbed his opponent and, later on, jumped overboard. The tanker on which this incident happened turned back and looked for him. However, the search was not extensive as the stabbed victim also required urgent medical support.
On 2 November, a wounded seaman was transferred to the Kone, New Caledonia hospital. A helicopter helped carry this out. Meanwhile, the tanker continued on its voyage to New Zealand from Korea. The person who was lost overboard could not be found. SAR was coordinated by MRCC Noumea, with four merchant vessels also involved. However, the SAR was suspended on 1 November at night.
