Importers Lament Closure Of Ladipo Spare Parts Market in Lagos

Barely a week after the closure of the popular Ladipo International Spare Parts Market where automobile parts are sold, importers of such items have frowned at the closure stressing that it will affect automobile business in the country.
A cross section of importers who deal on automobile spare parts said that goods worth billions of Naira are trapped in the market as a result of the closure.

In a chat with Shipping Position Daily in Lagos last week, Managing Director, A.K and Sons Limited, Mazi Maxwell Ikenna said traders are beginning to regret the closure adding that a lot has been learnt since the closure which was ordered by the Lagos state government.
According to the spare parts importer who said that the development will also affect dealers of used vehicles.
He added that the closure of the Ladipo market could lead to a lull in sale of vehicles.
According to him, importation will drop because the market also contributes immensely to imported items into the country.
However an automobile dealer, Mr.Uzonuoma Stephen affirmed that some newly- imported vehicles with minor problem will remain in the owners shop for a longer period, because their parts can only be found at the closed market.
The dealer pointed out that American- made vehicles will be affected mostly if the market does not reopen on time because most of the American brands parts are traceable to smaller markets in the country.
However, in a similar vein, Chairman Ezex Automobile Limited, Chief Kalu Ifeanyi commended the government on closure which according to him will enable traders to ensure that their environment is well taken care of when the market reopes for business.
