NIMASA Enlightens PR Staff, Journalists On Modern Media Ethics

The Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), penultimate week organised a two-day training programme for public relations officers of the agency and journalists covering the maritime industry as part of its commitment to capacity building.
The programme tagged ‘’In House Specialized Orientation Programme for Public Relations Staff”, was designed to enlighten and inform staff of the agency on modern trends in news writing and reporting ,features writing ,photography ,ethics of the profession and development journalism.

The programme tagged ‘’In House Specialized Orientation Programme for Public Relations Staff”, was designed to enlighten and inform staff of the agency on modern trends in news writing and reporting ,features writing ,photography ,ethics of the profession and development journalism.
The programme had in attendance, public relation officers of the agency from the western and eastern parts of the country, which include Port Harcourt, Warri, Calabar, Abuja and Lagos.
Speaking at the workshop, Deputy Director Public Relation, Mr. Isichei Osamgbi said the training can never be complete without the presence of journalists whom he described as the key stakeholders to do the work of publicity.
He said that the training programme for staff will be a continuous package, which will come up in different phases for the benefit of the media job to be done better.
According to him, working with the forth estate of the realm makes the PR job easier for the civil servant.
Osamgbi noted that there is also a strong likelihood that NIMASA may sponsor the best maritime reporter award under the Nigeria Media Merit Award (NMMA) in order to encourage maritime reporters to do their best while reporting the sector.
He noted that sponsorship of the specialized award under NMMA will make the job more competitive among maritime journalists.
The image maker of NIMASA also noted that the next training programme will be duly participated in by journalist who will play the role of the resource persons.
‘’We would love a situation whereby NIMASA will sponsor the best maritime reporter award in NMMA to see how we can encourage the reporters from the sector, I am sure no outsider will come to win the award except those that cover the terrain, so it is the people that covers the beat that will be given such award and the issue is that we can do more as reporters’’, he assured.
