The Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) of has again extended the tenure of the National Executive Committee (NECOM) by another three months. This is according to a statement issued by the acting Ptresident of the association; Dr. Kayode Farinto.
He said the extension was given at an emergency meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) held in Abuja.
According to him, the NEC meeting, was well-attended, it had 14 out of the 17 Chapter Chairmen of ANLCA, along with representatives from the Council for Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) and other important stakeholders.
He added that various issues, including NECOM tenure, peace process, constitution, ASECO, BOT, election, and court cases, were discussed, and decisions were taken.
He said in response to ASECO’s request for additional time to conduct a credible election, the present NECOM’s tenure was extended by another three months; it will expire on October 16, 2023.
Farinto said the NEC also expressed cooperation with the Peace and Reconciliation Committee constituted by the Customs Consultative Council to find lasting peace within ANLCA.
According to him, a vote of confidence was passed on the Chairman and members of ASECO, which assured the NEC that the election would take place before July 31, 2023, with the venue to be announced soon.
Other matters addressed during the meeting included a letter that is circulating in Eastern Ports regarding the collection of landing fees and haulage charges, which the NEC deemed likely to be a scam.
The NEC resolved to lodge a complaint with the appropriate authority. Additionally, a court case instituted against ANLCA was discussed, and the NEC resolved to follow up with ANLCA lawyers to have the case thrown out.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to ANLCA’s march towards greatness, emphasizing the association’s dedication to being a professionally-driven organization led by competent, respected, and trusted leaders.
