ANLCA May Break Apart At Seme Border—Mikey Okunola
The newly-sworn in Seme Border chapter chairman of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Custom Agent (ANLCA) Mr. Patrick Ozobialu has dismissed insinuations that he has abandoned the association's secretariat over his opposition's threat of planting invisible charms at the secretariat.
Also, a popular figure in the ongoing controversy; Chief Mikey Okunola has vowed that ANLCA will be broken apart at Seme Border if the recently-set up election panel upholds the results of the election that was conducted on the 24th of January.
Their reactions were coming on the heels of the exclusive story about the charms that were planted at the chapter’s secretariat by a group led by Chief Miky Okunola. The story was carried yesterday by Shipping Position Daily.
The Seme chairman who spoke with our correspondent at the venue of the hearing by the association’s election panel in Lagos yesterday stated that he has not abandoned the secretariat, even as he dismissed claims that he embezzled association funds.
"Anybody that says election was rigged should come forward with evidence, all I know is that election was held and I emerged as the winner, I never embezzled any money and whoever says I embezzled money should come forward with evidence", he challenged his accusers.
Ozobialu said that wrangling within an association is a normal occurrence but that the most important thing is to settle the wrangling.
He also said that he is not scared of any charms planted at the secretariat.
"Scared of what? Scared of who? I have been at my secretariat and I am going to work now, if you can’t face these things then you are not supposed to contest for election, I have not abandoned the secretariat, even at the heat of the election, we were working at our secretariat, how can I abandon a secretariat that opens every day? I can never be scared", he declared.
Meanwhile, in his chat with our correspondent at the venue of the panel’s sitting, Chief Mikey Okunola pointedly accused the National Secretary of ANLCA, Dr Oparah Ogu of manipulating the Seme election in order for him to continue playing 'godfather' at the chapter.
He alleged that the ANLCA national secretary has been using the names of 59 unregistered companies to rig elections at the Seme border chapter.
"Opara has been using that 59 names to become godfather in Seme border, whoever he wants to emerge winner, he will just use the 59 names for him, he asked me to use the 59 names during my campaign but I said I do not want it, I prefer not to become a chairman than to become chairman fraudulently", he told Shipping Position Daily yesterday.
He threatened that, "if the panel upholds the result of that fraudulent election, the association will break into pieces in Seme border, it is an association, and it is when we agree to associate that we can associate, no law in this country will force me to be part of a fraudulent association"
Chief Okunola demanded that the 59 names smuggled into the voters list of Seme border should be removed because according to him, they did not go through normal clearance procedure.
"As long as we don’t rely on the result of that fraudulent election, whatever decision the panel takes will make my peace" he said.
