ANLCA Partners CECP On Cancer Prevention

The Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) is set to join other corporate bodies to partner with the Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy (CECP), a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), which focuses on solving community challenges.

This was the high- point of a recent visit of the Executive Secretary of CECP, Dr Abia Nzelu to the National President of ANLCA, Prince Olayiwola Shittu at the Association’s National Secretariat in Lagos.

Briefing the ANLCA President on the NGO’s immediate focus which is on cancer prevention at the grassroot, Dr Nzelu lamented that in Nigeria, four out of five cancer patients die. She attributed this to ignorance and non-early detection of the disease.

According to her, ignorance of the fact that cancer is preventable, coupled with not knowing where to go for early detection and treatment, was responsible for the high mortality rate among cancer patients.

Dr Nzelu explained the different types of cancer diseases which include that of prostrate, throat, breast, eye, cervic and others. She said early detection, access to good facility and care could save a lot of lives or at least, have the chance of living longer.

The Executive Secretary of CECP said her visit to the ANLCA President was
to brief him on the activities of the NGO and solicit for support for its activities.

According to her, the organization is aiming to have Thirty-Seven Mobile cancer screening Centres spread across the Federation, each costing N95million. She added that the Mobile Screening Centres would equally handle HIV and other related diseases.

Dr Nzelu appealed to ANLCA and other corporate bodies to partner with CECP in the fight against the dreaded disease. She disclosed that the platform for donations would be communicated to the association in due course.
