Apapa Customs Flags-off Pre Scanning, Sets March 28, As Take off Date

Apparently worried by delays and flagrant disrespect for guidelines governing cargo clearance at Apapa port, its Customs area controller, Alhaji Idris Suleiman; a Comptroller, has unfolded a new means of ensuring that the process is made better.
The controller told maritime reporters in Lagos last week that issues like joint examination would hence forth be a one- stop shop as congestion and long waiting time by trucks at the Apapa Port gate will be a thing of the past.

The controller told maritime reporters in Lagos last week that issues like joint examination would hence forth be a one- stop shop as congestion and long waiting time by trucks at the Apapa Port gate will be a thing of the past.
He also gave an insight into the commands revenue collection drive, saying that, revenue has increased from N14.01 billion in January to N19.4 billion in February, even a she added that as at the middle of March, the command’s revenue had already risen to N8billion.
To kick-start the new process, he disclosed that  the duo of APM Terminal  and Cotecna Destination Inspection Limited have been mandated by the government to introduced pre- scanning of containers, adding that the service providers are expected to initiate this scheme from the 28th of March, 2011. According to him, all containers will be scanned on arrival before they are stacked at the terminal.    
According to him, “any container with five homogeneous goods and above should be examined because of the problem, we are going to approve re-routing the cargoes to physical examination as a means to facilitate trade’’.
The controller reiterated that once examination is done there will be no room for  another examination and that any container that has been scanned should be cleared for loading except when such container is suspected,  it will be subjected to physical examination.
