Apapa Customs Garners N108billion in 8 Months

…..Controller Assures On Shorter Cargo Dwell Time

Apapa area one command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) says that it has so far colleted about N108.5Billion a feat which is about N17Billin higher than what was collected into both the federation and non-federation account within  the corresponding period last year when about N91.2Billion had been collected

The revenue figure is however a far cry from the target of N244 Billion which the Customs headquarters gave to the premier command out of the overall revenue target of N650Billion which the government gave the service for this year.

The revelations came even as the command’s area controller, Mr Akinade  Adewuyi admonished officers and men of the Command to re-double their effort towards collecting maximum revenue for the Service especially in the face of dwindling revenue for the oil sector

The Controller gave this directive during his maiden tour of terminals and units under the Command where he also charged the Customs personnel in the command to be conscious of their responsibilities as revenue collectors stressing that  revenue collection is central to Customs operations He insisted that the command’s personnel must collect maximum revenue.

He said the current drop in oil revenue has necessitated the demand by government for internally generated revenue and the Service is being looked upon to rise up to the challenge by living up to the expectations of government.
The Area Controller also seized the opportunity of the tour to appeal to freight forwarders to partner with the Command so that it can achieve its objectives

He appealed to them to make correct and honest declarations in their dealings with the command, even as he assured them of quick cargo delivery through facilitation of legitimate trade.

Adewuyi decried the lack of containers at most of the terminals visited. Some of the terminals have not handled any containers in the last nine months. According to him, the development has a multiplier effect on the command’s ability to meet its revenue target.

He assured stakeholders that he would put machineries in motion to further reduce the cargo dwell time from the current 19 days.
