The Western Marine Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has seized 2,200 bags of rice.
Coming barely five weeks after the command got an acting controller; Chief Superintendent of Customs (CSC),Gabriel Johnson has so far recorded seizure estimated at about N24.649Million.
Speaking with journalists in Lagos last week, the controller said that following the synergy between the customs headquarters and officers of the command, there have been modest seizures on a weekly basis.

Speaking with journalists in Lagos last week, the controller said that following the synergy between the customs headquarters and officers of the command, there have been modest seizures on a weekly basis.
Johnson said that the last seizure 2200 bags which was recorded on the 18th of October by the command is the highest so far in the command, he gave the Duty Paid Value (DPV) of the seizure as N19,893,060.
The said the goods were intercepted around Yekeme Kesse and Akere waters along the Port Novo and Nigeria creeks.
Giving a further breakdown on his achievement, since appointed acting controller, he said that a total of 170 kilogram bags of foreign Indian and Thailand parboiled rice with DPV of N1,004,725 were recorded in the first week, while another 200 bags with DPV of N 2,233,980 were intercepted in the second week .
In the third week, 60 bags of rice, estimated at N542,538.00, loosed bales, 16 cartons of foreign milk, 10 kegs of vegetable oil.
The fourth week had 70 cartons of frozen poultry products, 11 bags of rice, with DPV 567,757.00 and 8 kegs of vegetable oil were all seized as well.
The controller said that the service will continue to have zero tolerance on unlawful importation and under declaration of goods.
Johnson attributed the huge seizures to the Comptroller General of Customs, Alhaji Dikko Abdullahi Inde led management to his officers’ motivation and the logistics support for the command.
"At this point, I want to warn unpatriotic elements plying our creeks ,waterways and sea using it as a point base to smuggle items into the country to have a rethink, because officers and men of this command are fully on ground to deal decisively any form of violation”, he warned.
