A 37-year-old man, Segun Awijo, was on Tuesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing his employer’s rowboat and a rowboat engine valued at N6 million.
The defendant, a boatman, who resides at Ajah, Lagos, is being tried for conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, ASP Evelyn Ehieniua, told the court that the offences were committed on April 4, 2023 at Ilaje Waterside, Ajah, Lagos.
Ehieniua said that the defendant and others at large, stole rowboat and a rowboat engine valued at N6 million belonging to his employer, Mr Oye Omoboye.
The prosecutor said the defendant changed his accommodation after stealing the rowboat and a rowboat engine, while efforts to locate him were unsuccessful.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mr M. A. Adegbaye, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.
Adegbaye adjourned the case until Feb. 29 for mention.
