CAC Partners CRFFN To Regulate Freight Forwarding

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has pledged to collaborate with the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) to regulate inflow of practitioners into freight forwarding for the growth of the Nigerian economy.

CAC Registrar General; Alhaji Garba Abubakar stated this on Thursday in Abuja while receiving the Registrar/CEO of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN), Barrister Samuel Nwakohu.

Alhaji Garba Abubakar who noted the huge potential of the sector stressed that the CAC was already operating similar collaboration with other sister government agencies in order to set standards for their respective areas of jurisdiction, Rasheed Mahe. Head Media, CAC said in a statement.

The Registrar General therefore said the CAC was ready to jointly sanitize the sector on a workable arrangement to ensure that only fit and proper persons were allowed to operate in the freight forwarding business in line with global best practices.

Speaking earlier, the Registrar/CEO of the CRFFN, Barrister Samuel Nwakohu said the agency became fully operational in 2009 following the enactment of the CRFFN Act of 2007 and charged with amongst others the responsibility of setting standards, regulating and controlling the freight forwarding in Nigeria.

He however lamented that some freight forwarders have in addition to operating illegally without registering with the council, also been frustrating efforts aimed regulating their operations.

Nwakohu who emphasized the importance of collaborating with the CAC to ensure sanity in the sector, said the council was concerned with clearing of goods for international destinations to and from any country in compliance with local and international laws and regulations.

According to him, freight forwarding was responsible for the custom’s revenue, proper declaration and noted that under declaration of values of goods amounted to economic sabotage while concealing of nature of goods cleared constitute serious breach of National security and safety.
