CIOTA Commends Amaechi’s For Inspecting Apapa Port Rail Connection

The Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria (CIOTA) has commended the Minister of Transportation; Mr Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi for inspecting the rail track at Apapa seaport quay in Lagos.


Recall that on Monday, the Minister was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr Magdalene Ajani; the Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority Hajia Hadiza Bala Usman, Chairman Governing Board of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Mallam Musa Al-Hassan, the Managing Director of Nigeria Railway Corporation, Fidet Okhiria, Comptroller Scanner, Nigeria Custom Service, Paul Ekpenyong and other officials of the Nigeria Customs Service to inspect the Apapa railway.

The NPA Managing Director has severally urged Customs to collaborate in the Apapa Restoration Policy embarked by the NPA to stem the menace of Apapa gridlock.

Following this development, the President of the Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria, Dr. Bashir Jamoh applauded the move, noting that it will eliminate the huge economic losses that Apapa road gridlock has caused on the nation.

Jamoh applauded government’s resolve to providing sustainable infrastructure especially in the transportation Sector.

The Institute’s spokesperson, Mrs. Chizoba Anyika emphasised that transport drives the economy, and the Federal Government’s focus on developing Rail Transport infrastructure is critical to reducing dependence on the roads and the economic consequences on the nation.

She noted that the Institute’s desire is to see the Nigerian ports as the leading port in Africa and called on relevant establishments to take advantage of the Institute’s progressive professionals who are ready and willing to partner in developing sustainable transport infrastructure in line with international best practices.
