Following last week’s importation of 48 new Tata buses at the Tin Can Island Port on a vessel called ‘Bergamot Ace’ and which were subsequently transferred to Clarion Bonded Terminal in Lagos, there are fresh indications that the demand for new buses may have shot up as a second batch of the BRT buses have been moved to the off dock terminal for clearance arrangement to be effected.
Following last week’s importation of 48 new Tata buses at the Tin Can Island Port on a vessel called ‘Bergamot Ace’ and which were subsequently transferred to Clarion Bonded Terminal in Lagos, there are fresh indications that the demand for new buses may have shot up as a second batch of the BRT buses have been moved to the off dock terminal for clearance arrangement to be effected.
Shipping Position Daily findings revealed that another round of Tata BRT busses totaling about 119 units have been imported via a vessel called Navdhenu Swift which came in through Tin Can Island Port last week.
Our correspondent also learnt that already, clearing arrangement has begun for the vehicles last week, the clearance is expected to be concluded this week as the remaining units of the vehicles will leave the off dock terminal to the Tata Africa Service Station at Awuwo Odofin industrial layout .
According to Mr. Stephen Nwabueze of the Logistics unit of Tata Africa Services [Nigeria] limited who spoke with Shipping Position Daily explained that the latest importation was necessitated by the high demand my Nigerian transporters.
According to him, the vehicles do not belong to the Federal Government or State Governments as being speculated, but they are meant for direct sale. Nwabueze said the buses were imported from India where the manufacturer is located.
Meanwhile, General Manager of Clarion Shipping West Africa, Frank Okocha told our correspondent that the importation of the vehicles is a clear indication that the transportation industry in the country is fast growing.
Okocha disclosed that the importation of new vehicles into the country will discourage a lot of people who parade themselves as clearing agents or freight forwarders, but in the real sense are touts in the nations’ port.
According to him, the terminal has recorded mostly new vehicles in the past few weeks as against the previous months where used vehicles are commonly cleared by agents.
He said that the importation of new vehicles into the clarion in recent time has led to low human traffic at the terminal; he also added that this has led to peace and calm in the terminal.
‘’The latest development of importation of new vehicles into our terminal has created peace and calm because most agents are not actually into clearing of new vehicles which in turn revealed that most of them clears tokunboh vehicles’’.
