As part of its mandate to train and develop capacity in the area of transport and logistics, the Council for the Regulation of freight forwarding in Nigeria [CRFFN] is set to commence the maiden edition of its training programme for top executive officers and managing directors of organization in the freight forwarding profession.
Deputy Director, library services of the CRFFN, Mr.Ifeanyi Osuagwu told Shipping Position Daily in Lagos last week that the training is being put together for individuals who have at least 10 years experience in freight forwarding.
Shedding more light on the programme, Mr Osuagwu disclosed that the training is scheduled to hold in batches in three geopolitical zone of the country.
According to him, the professional diploma for top executives will commence in April and it will end in July in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt.
He stated also that the programme is not based on academy qualifications or requirements,  rather it is being put together for professionals who have vast experience and knowledge about the freight forwarding business.
Osuagwu said that the one week intensive residential training programme for executives is the first that CRFFN will organize outside the training of the trainers’ programme that was held in January.
He said that the programme is basically designed for chief executives and managing directors of freight forwarding companies, stressing that the council choose to start with the chief executives before others.
‘’If we decide to give them a certificate programme, their schedule will not allow them to attend long time training and based on the nature of their businesses, this may not also allow them to fit into a long time training’’, he explained, even as he added that everything that will be thought will be based on applied knowledge by the executives and that it is a means to develop the knowledge and mind set of the participants
‘’Most of the participants know about everything in freight forwarding, so we need to sharpen their skills which they have acquired informally on the job over a period of  time, therefore it is going to be a practical and applied class’’, Osuagwu stated.
As part of the training by CRFFN, the director noted in order to bring them in terms of what they have experienced, that participants will also visit ports and freight forwarding points.
‘’This is a first of its kind and we are holding it in batches, we start from Lagos, move to Abuja and Port Harcourt then come back to Lagos again because they are so many of them and since the idea come up the response has been very encouraging ‘’.
According to him, the Lagos State training  centre will take care of registered freight forwarders across the western state of the country, while the Port Harcourt centre will take care of practitioners across Calabar, Warri, Yenegoa and all other eastern states of the country, adding that Abuja will host the northern states.
Osuagwu explained that the professional training programme for executives will attract an award in diploma for freight forwarding and that the content of the programme is not entirely academic.
He also said that the programme will bring about pool of residual knowledge from both the participants and the facilitators with participatory approach which comes with business orientation.
The assistant director disclosed that the facilitator of the maiden training programme for chief executives will come from India and added that the Nigeria Institute of Transport Technology [NITT] is also deeply involved.
