Another round of efforts to broker truce  between the National President, Council of  Managing Director of Licensed Customs Agents, Mr Lucky Amiwero and the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) has hit the rocks as the feuding parties could not reach a compromise.
Mr Amiwero had dragged the CRFFN, the minister of transport as well as the Nigerian Shippers Council to court over allegations of irregularities in the conduct of elections into the CRFFN in 2008.
The court case had significantly slowed down the activities of the CRFFN until a new minister in person of Alhaji Ibrahim Isa Bio was appointed. Since his becoming the minister, he has tried severally, but unsuccessfully to make the litigant see reason.
Shipping Position Weekly confirmed that another meeting was held last week at the Nigerian Shippers’ Council. The meeting was presided over by the executive secretary of the Council, Captain Adamu Biu who represented the minister.
Sources at the meeting confirmed to our correspondent that it was actually attended by the duo of Mr Tony Nwabunike; the chairman of CRFFN and Mr Amiwero.
Although, our sources refused to give details of what transpired, they never-the-less confirmed that the meeting centred on how to pacify Amiwero and also bring him and a few others freight forwarders into the CRFFN.
It was also confirmed that the meeting was deadlocked following disagreement over how many seats that Mr Amiwero’s group; the National Council of Managing Directors of Licensed Customs Agents would get. It was disclosed that while the CRFFN was willing to accommodate his group as well as other interests, he could only be offered two slots while Amiwero was said to have requested for more.
Both parties confirmed the meeting, but neither was willing o divulge the details. Mr Amiwero confirmed that the stalemated meeting has been rescheduled, while Mr Nwabunike said that efforts were being made to seek amicable solution.
Shipping Position Weekly recalls that Mr Amiwero had about two months ago expressed his readiness to withdraw the court case if certain undisclosed conditions were met.
He case is presently at the Lagos High court in Ikeja.
