As part of its nationwide sensitisation programme, the Council for Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) was in Kano and Port Harcourt last week where it said that registration of freight forwarding practitioners in the country is progressing satisfactorily.
This was the crux of the speech of the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of CRFFN, Sir Mike Jukwe at a meeting with freight forwarders in the Northern and South South and South Eastern parts of the country.
Giving an update on the registration which started since February 1, 2010 and which is billed to end on April 15, Jukwe said several practitioners and corporate organisations had completed their on-line application.
“The registration of freight forwarders which commenced in February and ending in April is progressing very well and I want to remind all of you that the registration is necessary for any freight forwarder that wants to practice’’, he said.
According to the Registrar, section 14(1) of the CRFFN Act 2007 states that a registered freight forwarder shall use the abbreviation RFF after his name.
Jukwe said section 14(2) of the Act stated that a person shall not practice or carry on business under any name, style or title containing the words `freight forwarders’ unless he is registered under this Act.
He said the council would ensure strict regulation and control of the activities of freight forwarders to sanitise the profession.
“The individual and corporate practitioner membership registration as well as the various freight forwarding associations accreditation exercise would be done on-line, but we will conduct validation and pre-registration sessions at the zonal offices’’, the Registrar said.
“Similarly, induction sessions for registered members and leaders of accredited freight forwarding associations will hold soon’’, he said.
Jukwe said practitioners would be given a code of professional conduct, while freight forwarding associations would have the operational guidelines.
Some members of CRFFN’s Governing Council, including its vice chairman, Alhaji Hakeem Olanrewaju also attended the meetings which was the first of its kind since inception of the Council and which came after a similar meeting held in Lagos a few weeks back
