CRFFN VERIFICATION: CWCFFN Calls For Extension Of Date

Ahead of the August deadline given by the Council for Regulation of Freight Forwarders (CRFFN), the Central Working Committee of Freight Forwarders of Nigeria (CWCFFN) has appealed for an extension of the August 28, 2010 deadline that was given by the Council for freight forwarders who had earlier applied for registration on line to come forward to verify their claims.
In an appeal that was sent to the chairman, governing council, Mr Tony Nwabunike, as well as the registrar of CRFFN Sir Mike Jukwe, the CWCFFN alleged that the Lagos verification centre lacks sufficient manpower and that, as it is, many freight forwarders may not be verified before the deadline expires.
The CWCFFN which is an amalgamation of all freight forwarding associations called for an extension of the period of verification in a letter that was signed by one Innocent Ebum, it also called on the duo of Nwabunike and Jukwe to pay a visit to the Apapa, Lagos centre where the group alleged that young freight forwarders are finding it difficult to register.
“Please, do visit the verification site, the work force of the consultants is inadequate, it takes an average of eight hours to get verified”, the statement added.
Shipping Position Weekly recalls that the minister of transport, Alhaji Yusuf Suleiman had two weeks ago waded into the face-off over the verification exercise and directed that freight forwarders who had previously registered online and who had been offered provisional membership of the council  should honour the verification exercise.
The intervention was followed up with a public notice which was signed by the permanent secretary in the ministry, Dr Edugie Abebe in which it stated that the verification will take place between August 3 and 28, 2010.
The public notice which was placed in Shipping Position Weekly of August 9,  2010 also directed that elections of registered freight forwarders into the governing council of CRFFN will now hold between September 1 and 4, 2010.
