The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has donated items to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at the New Kuchingoro Camp in Abuja.

This is part of its Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) towards the economic empowerment of Nigerians and the development of the nation.

Mr Hassan Bello, the Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of NSC, donated the items to officials of the Camp on Tuesday in Abuja.

Bello, who was represented by Hajiya Rakiya Nuhu, NSC’s Deputy Director, Abuja Liaison Office, said the event was based on the premium NSC placed on its CSR activities in communities.

“The NSC is equally saddled with the responsibility to facilitate the establishment of critical transport infrastructure in all the geopolitical zones around the country for example the inland dry ports and vehicle transit parks.

“Therefore, NSC contributes optimally to the economic development of the nation, while protecting the rights and interest of all stakeholders in the transport sector in line with best practice.

“Our gathering here today is necessitated by the NSC’s passion to support and empower Nigerians in need in different ways, as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility Activities.

“Accordingly, the New Kuchingoro IDP Camp, was graciously chosen as one of the beneficiaries for this year’s CSR support exercise to assist men, women and children in a little way,’’ Bello said.

He listed the donated items to include, one 2.5 KVA Honda Generator, eight Lontor Rechargeable Lamps, two Ox Rechargeable Fans, two Philip Pressing Irons, 30 Stainless Steel Kettles, 15 Avon Stainless Steel Buckets and 20 Perma Mosquito nets.

He added that 25 Towels, 15 Shengzong Single burner cookers, 15 Firewill double burner cookers, 15 Set of 5 Tower cooking pots, 15 Tower frying pans, 115 Ceramic plates and 28 Small size bowls were donated.

Bello said items such as 15 Small size blankets, 13 Waterproof 6’’ mattress, 10 Maxwell big coolers, 20 Agary hot water bottles, 55 Medium bowls as well as provisions were equally donated.

The NSC boss expressed the council’s desire that the items be used judiciously to ameliorate the sufferings of displaced Nigerians at the camp.

In her remarks, Hajiya Hauwa Mohammed, a Board Member of the council appealed to the Federal Government to find lasting solutions to the needs of the IDPs across the country.

“This is because, whatever we donate here today are temporary, but as we can all see, they require something permanent that can alleviate their wants and needs,’’ Mohammed added.

Responding, Mr Philemon Emmanuel, Chairman of the Camp expressed gratitude to the NSC for the donation to the camp.

According to him, the timely gesture has brought hope to the people and has shown that the IDPs are still being remembered.

“We thought people have forgotten us, but what I have seen today by the Shippers’ Council, shows that people still have us in mind and I cannot express my gratitude.

“I pray God to continue to bless and protect them and their families so that they can do more,’’ Emmanuel said.
