Mr Dan Ugo, the Zone `A’ Federal Controller of Customs, Ikeja, Lagos, has appealed to traditional rulers in Ijanikin, to collaborate with the command in the fight against smuggling.

Ugo made the call when he visited the Vice Chairman, Lagos State Council of Traditional Rulers, Chief Rauf Matemi, as part of his familiarisation tour of organisations and institutions under the command.

The controller assured the royal father that customs would continue to work hard towards stemming the activities of smugglers in the area.
Ugo promised to facilitate legitimate trade in Lagos, which he described as customs core function.
He said that the visit was in recognition of the role of traditional rulers in the maintenance of peace and orderliness in the society.
Responding, the traditional ruler commended the controller for dignifying the royal institution.
“This is the first time that I would have such a delegation from the customs service since my ascension to the throne seven years ago.
“I will continue to partner with the customs, and the unit command in particular, to ensure peaceful co-habitation,’’ Matemi said.
