The Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone ‘A’ said it has evacuated 1,800 cartons of imported  ‘Corona’ brand of  beer valued at about N6Million from a private warehouse in Oshodi industrial area of Lagos.
The Controller in charge of the unit, Comptroller Dan Ugo, made this disclosure while conducting newsmen round the seized items, even as he stated that importing the beer contravened Schedule 3, paragraph 9 of the Common External Tarrif.
He attributed the seizure to the intelligence gathering strategy of the command which has enabled the command to record spectacular seizures in the past few months.
“This, coupled with the support of the Customs top echelon led by the CGC Alhaji Abdullahi Inde Dikko, in terms of capacity building, motivation, remuneration and provision of the necessary logistics was the reason why the command has always excelled”, he pointed out.
The CAC applauded the sense of commitment and dedication to duty demonstrated by his officers in their official assignment and promised to keep up the tempo.
Giving a further insight into the command’s activities, Compt. Ugo also disclosed that the command seized 1,386 cartons of assorted frozen products with Duty Paid Value  of  about N5,8Million.
He stated that the poultry products have since been destroyed.
The Customs top man reiterated the determination of the unit to ensure zero tolerance for importation of all contraband and poultry products in line with admonishments of the Customs CG.
He also advised all importers and agents to familiarize themselves with the requirements of law in terms of all imports/exports with a view to ensuring compliance.
“The unit will stop at nothing in carrying it out its functions of suppressing smuggling, facilitation of trade and enforcement of fiscal policies of government”, the CAC retorted .
