Dockworkers who are in the employment of PTOL Terminals in Port Harcourt have cried out against the operators of the terminal alleging that the company has not been paying proper attention to the well-being and welfare packages of the workers.

Some of the Dockworkers who spoke with Shipping Position Weekly correspondent in Port Harcourt under anonymity called on the management of PTOL to show more commitment towards addressing the welfare of dockworkers.
Speaking to our correspondent some of the workers alleged that PTOL management reneged from fulfilling its part of the concession agreement which they entered with the Federal Government that they shall engage the services of dockworkers on taking over the Ports as Terminal Operators.
They particularly accused PTOL terminal for failing to provide medical care and other safety gadgets to protect the dockworkers from health hazards.
“PTOL is killing us. They are overstretching our manpower”, an aggrieved Dockworker told Shipping Position Weekly in Port Harcourt.
Our investigations at the quays of the Port Harcourt Ports revealed that there has been an increase in the number of trucks that the dockworkers are expected to deliver. It was also gathered that when the terminals were being operated by NPA, 19 men loaded four trucks, even as they accused PTOL of tasking same number of men to load 6 trucks of rice at a far cheaper rate.
For fish vessels, they said 23 men now load 22 trucks of fish as against the NPA’s 18 trucks. They also accused PTOL of short- changing them by paying them far below survival rate which is against Federal Governments’ instruction.
