The President General Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWNU) Comrade Tony Nted Emmanuel has been described as a leader with a vision, especially as it concerns his drive in human capacity development for members of the union.
According to them, since he emerged as president general of the union, a total of 5,500 unionists have been impacted locally and internationally in various industrial labour-related courses.

According to them, since he emerged as president general of the union, a total of 5,500 unionists have been impacted locally and internationally in various industrial labour-related courses.
The manpower development programmes on maritime workers’ union in the country has made port operations to be stable unlike what was obtainable in time past.
The Secretary, Tin Can Island Port unit of the union, Comrade Adele Matthew said the performance of MWUN has been impressive under the current leadership of Comrade Tony Nted Emmanuel.
Adele said the P.G. has been able to expose the workers to universal knowledge by sponsoring more than 5,500 workers for industrial training courses.
He said the training had impacted positively on the nation’s economy and on the lives of individuals, he said that, “those days we had issues of thuggery and rioting in the ports, but since the inception of Tony Nted Emmanuel, all these issues have been settled due to the training he has given to his members and it has been a sensitization within the system”.
‘’Today, there is no more issue of thuggery at the port, everywhere is calm and there are ways to dialogue with management because back them there was no room for dialoguing with management ‘’, he said.
According to him, the training of workers of the union had commenced since 2011; that accounted for the 5,500 individuals that have been imparted upon, especially in the areas of ports operations.
He said that dockworkers are enlightened towards port operations and handling of equipment in the various terminals in the ports in line with the training that they had received through the P.G. initiatives of adding value to their lives.
Adele also added that the previous leaders of the MWUN did not come up with such innovation of empowering workers but the President General stands out from the crowd to give them a brighter future which has been beneficial.
