….. Anxiety Still Permeates NIMASA
…..Ex- DG Vows To Fight Back
Palpable anxiety and uncertainty still envelope the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), even as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) last week finally took the agency’s erstwhile director general, Mr Temisan Omatseye into its custody preparatory to his arraignment.
Omatseye was first nabbed late last year by the anti-graft agency following the outcome of a forensic audit of the agency on the orders of the minister of transport, Alhaji Yusuf Suleiman.
But last week’s arrest of Omatseye is already causing anxiety in NIMASA, even as the new director general, Mr Patrick Zikade Akpobolokemi settles down in his new office.
There were indications that the embattled former DG, Mr Temisan Omatseye is not letting go easily as he has vowed to return to office.
Our correspondent confirmed last week that the suspended NIMASA helmsman has alsovowed to spill the beans.
A source close to him told our correspondent that Omatseye had actually planned to hold a press conference last week where he was to give a detailed insight into the circumstances that led to his controversial removal from office last year.
Spokesman for the EFCC, Mr Femi Babafemi confirmed to our correspondent last week that Omatseye was actually detained last Tuesday and that charges have already being filed against him.
“He is in our custody, charges have been filed against him, we are only waiting for the court to give a date for hearing”, the EFFC spokesman disclosed, even though he refused to give details of the charges.
According to him, the administrative bail which the commission granted the ex-DG was to allow room for proper investigations of the allegations that were leveled against him on account of the audit of the agency.
Our sources however hinted that Omatseye’s incarceration last week has heightened anxiety; especially among some top echelon of the agency and some of his aides.
