FG Awards N67bn Contracts To Revamp Rail Lines

The Federal Government has awarded N67bn contracts to three foreign firms for the revival of the rail transport sub-sector in the country.
The contracts to rehabilitate the rail lines across the country were awarded to Eser Contractor, a Turkish company, CGGC Contractor and LINGO Contractor.

While Eser was awarded a N19.1bn contract to rehabilitate the eastern line railway network traversing Port Harcourt, Aba, Umuahia, Ishiagu, Eha Amufu, Oturkpo and Makurdi; CGGC Contractor is expected to rehabilitate the line that passes through Makurdi, Kuru, Jos and Kaduna at a cost of N23bn.
The Federal Government also awarded a N24bn contract to LINGO Contractor to rehabilitate the Kafanchan/Kaduna/Maiduguri rail line.
Speaking shortly after inspecting the first consignment of track materials imported by Eser Contractor in Port Harcourt, the Managing Director, Nigerian Railway Corporation, Mr. Adeseye Sijuwade, said all attention had been on the rehabilitation of the Lagos-Kano rail line.
While saying the Lagos-Kano line would soon be completed, Sijuwade noted that attention had now been shifted to the eastern rail line.
