FG inaugurates Technical Committee on the Dredging of the Lower Niger

After months of uncertainties, government last week inaugurated an eight-member committee to coordinate and ensure compliance to standards in the dredging of the lower Niger River. 
The committee which is headed by the permanent secretary in the Ministry of transport, Alhaji Nu’uman Barau Danbatta also draws membership from critical government and private concerns
Inaugurating the committee, the minister of Transport, Alhaji Isa Bio who was represented by the permanent secretary stressed that “the inauguration of this committee which comprises people of considerable experience from organisations that are the arrow heads in the Maritime industry is a bold step to ensuring a well coordinated approach to the planning, management and implementation of the Dredging of the Lower River Niger.”
According to him, the main objective of the project is, “to improve water and inland transportation of goods and services and thereby enhance the socio-economic well-being of the people.”
Other benefits of the highly important multi-billion Naira project include:: Creation of jobs for the populace, promote of  public/private commercial activities, stimulation of  tourism, intermodal transport system; as well as improve navigation and control flood.

Members of the committee include :Mrs. Josephine Nwoko, Director, Transport  Planning  and Coordination, Federal Ministry of Transport; Mr. Musa Karam, Director Maritime Services, Federal Ministry of Transport; Malam Abdusallam Mohammed, Managing Director of Nigeria Ports Authority(NPA); Architect Ahmed Aminu, Managing Director Of National Inland waterways Authority (NIWA) ; Dr. Ade Dosunmu, Director-General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and Engineer Abu  Gumel, the President of Council of Registered Engineers of Nigeria (COREN) and Mrs. Chinwe Ezenwa who will serve as the Secretary.
