FG Terminates Single Window System Contract

Few months after the House of Representatives recommended its abolition, the Federal government has terminated the controversial Single Window Systems Contract
The House had last year organised a probe into the multi-billion naira concession agreement between the Ministry of Finance and a revenue facilitation company, Single Window Systems and Technology (SWST), which would have led to Nigeria loosing N4.5trn.

The House had last year organised a probe into the multi-billion naira concession agreement between the Ministry of Finance and a revenue facilitation company, Single Window Systems and Technology (SWST), which would have led to Nigeria loosing N4.5trn.
And on the strength of the startling outcome of the probe, President Goodluck Jonathan had ordered the minister, Dr. Ngozi  Okonjo- Iweala, to immediately suspend the agreement, look into the processes that led to the award and address the important questions raised by the House.
And the minister had in the wake of the probe confirmed the President’s directive, and in a letter to thec law makers she had written that:  “by the leave of Mr. President, I have suspended the single window project in deference to the concern of the National Assembly. “Mr. President had asked me to look into the processes that led to the award with the view to review the important issues raised by your committee. I will refer to you in due course with the outcome of this inquiry.”
But Shipping Position Daily confirmed yesterday that indeed the minister had taken a further step by ordering the termination of the contract
Confirming the development, Senior Special Assistant to the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Mr. Paul Nwabuikwu, disclosed that  the decision to discontinue the contract was based on an investigation by the Ministry of Finance, which looked into the processes and the terms of the contract signed by the government and the promoters of the project.
He confirmed that the process of awarding the contract was in breach of provisions of both the Procurement Act and the Infrastructure Concessioning and Regulatory Commission (ICRC) Act.
