Flood Submerges NIMASA Office, Naval Base In Lokoja

The premises of Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and the naval base, NNS Lugard, have been submerged by the flood in Lokoja.
A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), who visited parts of the city on Wednesday, reports that the flood also submerged the marine dockyard.
Also, the premises of the largest hotel in the town, the state government- owned Confluence Beach International Hotel on Ganaja Road has been flooded likewise Inoh Hotel on the same road.

The premises of Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and the naval base, NNS Lugard, have been submerged by the flood in Lokoja.

Also, the premises of the largest hotel in the town, the state government- owned Confluence Beach International Hotel on Ganaja Road has been flooded likewise Inoh Hotel on the same road.
The office of Federal Ministry of Information on Ganaja Road is also under the threat of the flood, which has taken a toll on the economy of the state.
Traders and buyers at the largest foodstuff market located at NATAKO area of Lokoja hurriedly closed shop when the level of water in River Niger suddenly increased in the afternoon.
The market, which holds every five days, is few metres away from the bank of River Niger.
As a result of the disaster, transport fares have risen astronomically in Lokoja as transporters now go through longer routes to get to their destinations.
The transport situation has been compounded by scarcity of petrol.
Mr Mustafa Allah-Dey of the Nigeria Red Cross Society told NAN that the water level in River Niger had risen because of the release of more water from Jebba Dam.
He said the number of displaced people had also increased.
Allah-Dey described the situation in the nine camps for displaced persons in Lokoja and Idah as “stable and okay’’.
Mrs Florence Ogedengbe, Executive Secretary, Kogi State Emergency Management Agency, had earlier told NAN that the premises of the three camps in Adankolo, Kabawa and Gadumo in Lokoja had been fumigated.
She said that the camp had also been provided with generators to make them more conducive for the displaced persons.
Ogedengbe appealed to corporate organisations, NGOs and well-to-do individuals to come to the aid of the flood victims many of whom had lost their personal belongings and means of livelihood to the flood.
