Former NPA AGM, Public Relations Rev Sam Opesanwo Is Dead

The death has been announced of a former General Manager, Public Realtions of the Nigerian Ports Authourity (NPA), Reverend Sam Opesanwo.

In a statement issued in Lagos yesterday by Mrs Ore-Oluwa Adeeko (Nee Opesanwo) the deceased died at the age of 73.

The Late Rev Samuel Adewale Opesanwo was born on January 21st 1940 in Ijebu-Igbo in Ogun State. He lost his father at a very tender age and subsequently relocated with other members of the family to Lagos where he attended the famous CMS Grammar School Bariga, Lagos.

The death has been announced of a former General Manager, Public Realtions of the Nigerian Ports Authourity (NPA), Reverend Sam Opesanwo.

On the completion of his Secondary School education he worked briefly with the Ministry of External Affairs before joining the services of the Nigerian Ports Authority in 1955.

A man with a vision for excellence, he enrolled at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism where he trained as a Journalist and honed his skills in Public Relations practice to enhance his official duties at the NPA.

Snazzy, urbane and ebullient, late Sam Opesanwo's tenure as Image Maker of the Nigerian Ports Authority witnessed an unprecedented era in the Authority's corporate relations with its various publics before his retirement in 1995.

He will be remembered as one of the lead supporters of the establishment of a specialist corps of maritime journalists and in this capacity contributed immensely to the growth and development of the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN)

He is survived by his wife Mrs Olayinka Opesanwo and three children amongst whom are Mr Adedamola Opesanwo and Barrister (Mrs) Aramide Edwards.
