FOU ‘A’ Seizes 7,269 Bags Of Imported Rice Along The Badagry– Seme Waterways

The Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘A’ of the Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted a barge off the Badagry –Seme border axis laden with 7,269 bags of rice with Duty Paid Value of about N50Millioon. The seizure were made on December 9,  2012.
Making the disclosure at the local jetty, the Controller Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘A’ Comptroller Dan Ugo confirmed that the seizure was made by a team led by CSC Kirawa Abdullahi.

The Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘A’ of the Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted a barge off the Badagry –Seme border axis laden with 7,269 bags of rice with Duty Paid Value of about N50Millioon. The seizure were made on December 9,  2012.
Making the disclosure at the local jetty, the Controller Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘A’ Comptroller Dan Ugo confirmed that the seizure was made by a team led by CSC Kirawa Abdullahi.
He added that the seizure was as a result of the command’s renewed effort to ensure strict compliance with the Customs Comptroller General’s directive on zero tolerance for importation of rice through the land borders and waterways,
Briefing newsmen at the jetty, the FOU ‘A’ Controller stated that, “what you see here is in furtherance to the wake-up call by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Dr. Abdullahi Dikko Inde on zero tolerance for importation of rice through the land borders”.
Speaking further, the Controller assured that, “the unit will continue to collaborate with the Rice Importers Associations of Nigeria and other critical stakeholders in ensuring that the unpatriotic attitudes of these “businessmen” are nipped in the bud.
The CAC confirmed that the barge is at the High Sea and that the process of evacuation of exhibit from the barge to smaller vessels for onward transfer to the Government warehouse, Ikeja was still on-going as at press time.
He expressed appreciation to the Western Marine Command of the service for providing complimentary security for the exhibits.
Similarly, command has also intercepted a truck along Shaki-Igboho road in Oyo state with 155 bags of parboiled rice and 95 kegs of 25litres of  vegetable oil.
The controller stressed that the seizure was as a result of harmonization of intelligence gathering involving three teams in the unit.
