Freight Forwarders Raise Alarm Over Failed Cotecna Scanner At TICT

Freight forwarders operating at the Tin Can Island port in Lagos, yesterday raised alarm over what they described as the epileptic services of the  scanning machine belonging to COTECNA Nigeria Limited at the terminal.
The breakdown of the equipment has eventually led to congestion at the terminal, thus creating bottleneck for vessel at berth.

The breakdown of the equipment has eventually led to congestion at the terminal, thus creating bottleneck for vessel at berth.
A freight forwarder who spoke under anonymity told Shipping Position Daily that the failed scanning machine has led to congestion at the terminal even as the terminal operator is said to be making efforts to assist the service provider on the possible ways to ameliorate the situation.
The agent said that the equipment has been down during last week holidays, making it difficult for containers to leave the port.
He said the condition of the scanner is yet unknown, but that the scanning of containers is yet to commence.
According to him, officials of the service provider and that of the terminal operators have been at each other’s throat on how to fix the scanner.
He urged the terminal operator to consider the agents and their principle for possible demurrage that might surface adding that the fault is from the service provider.
Our correspondent also confirmed from a reliable source at TICT that efforts are ongoing to ensure that the scanner is in put back in a working condition as soon as possible.
The breakdown of the scanner belonging to COTECNA Nigeria Limited at Tin Can Island Container Terminal has also led to the slow movement of cargoes out of the port.
Some of the trucks trapped inside the terminal are yet to exit the gate even as a long queue of trucks is visible outside the port complex waiting to discharge empty containers at the terminal.
