At least five petrol-laden ships have arrived at Lagos port and are awaiting berthing facilities, raising hope of an end to the fuel scarcity that has gripped some parts of the country.

At least five petrol-laden ships have arrived at Lagos port and are awaiting berthing facilities, raising hope of an end to the fuel scarcity that has gripped some parts of the country.
The five tankers with a combine tonnage of about 130,005 metric tonnes of premium motor spirit (PMS) are expected to start discharging premium motor spirit any moment from now.
Shipping Position Daily confirmed yesterday that the scarcity of petrol which started in some Niger Delta state a couple of weeks ago and which has now found its way to the South west and already noticeable in Lagos was caused principally by the failure of marketers of petroleum products to bring in fresh cargo.
However, by yesterday, there were signs that the scarcity will soon abate, as the ships laden with PMS cargo and which are waiting to berth were identified as Dubai Star with 27,000mt, Pretty World laden with 32,000 mt, Lucky Sailor, 15,000mt, Perla laden with 28,000 and  Panther with 28005mt of the essential commodity.
Our sources within the downstream sector of the oil and gas industry confirmed yesterday that a tanker which brought in PMS for the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has commenced discharger of 33,000 metric tonnes at the Apapa depot.
Shipping Position Daily correspondent who went round the various tank farms at the popular Ibru jetty confirmed that none of the tank farms was loading PMS yesterday and that the situation was as it has been in the last one week.
