Four Ghanaian stowaways have been arrested at the Tin-Can Island port in Lagos after a vessel MV Bareli which sailed in from Tema port in Ghana was subjected to routine checks by officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).
Confirming the arrest of the stowaways which occurred recently, the Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO) of the Tin-Can Island Container Terminal, (TICT) Captain Deji Omotosho said that the stowaways sailed with the vessel from Ghana with the belief that the vessel was sailing to Europe.

He stated that the stowaways did not know that the ship had to come to Lagos before finally sailing to Europe.
The particulars of the Ghanaians were documented and handed over to Immigration officials for onward deportation to Ghana.
Efforts to reach officials of the Tin-Can Island Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service were futile as they refused to answer questions from the reporter.
Shipping Position Daily could also not ascertain the location of the stowaways as at press time, but sources close to the Port Manager disclosed that the Ghanaians have been deported to their country.
