Guinness Nigeria, University Press Lead Gainers as NGX Records 7% Rise in Trading Volume

Trading activities on the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) ended on a mixed note on Friday, March 13, 2026, as investors traded a total of 590.9 million shares worth ₦34.96 billion in 52,952 deals.

Market data showed that trading volume improved by 7 percent compared with the previous trading session on Thursday, March 12. However, turnover declined by 22 percent, while the number of deals dropped by 4 percent, indicating lower transaction value despite increased share activity.

At the close of trading, the total market capitalisation of the Nigerian Exchange Limited stood at ₦127.4 trillion.

A total of 131 listed equities participated in the day’s trading, with market sentiment leaning positive as 34 stocks recorded gains, while 21 equities closed in the red.

Leading the gainers’ chart was Guinness Nigeria, which recorded a 10 percent increase in its share price to close at ₦385.00 per share. It was followed by University Press Plc and Royal Exchange Plc, both of which also posted a 10 percent appreciation. May & Baker Nigeria Plc also joined the top performers with a 9.93 percent rise in its share price.

On the losers’ chart, RT Briscoe Nigeria Plc recorded the steepest decline, shedding 9.17 percent to close at ₦10.40 per share. Other laggards included Learn Africa Plc, which dropped by 8.33 percent, Nigerian Exchange Group, down 6.12 percent, and Haldane McCall Plc, which fell by 5.78 percent.

In terms of market activity, First HoldCo Plc emerged as the most actively traded stock by volume, accounting for 70.8 million shares. It was followed by Access Holdings Plc with 67.2 million shares, Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc with 33.6 million shares, and Ellah Lakes Plc which recorded 27.1 million shares traded.

Overall, the trading session reflected cautious investor participation, with improved share volumes but weaker transaction value compared to the previous trading day.
