HMM Welcomes New Container Ship, ‘HMM Garnet’ into Its Fleet

^{The 13,000 TEU “HMM GARNET” was delivered to Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) by the HD Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard on January 24th 2024.}

^{The ship was delivered in a naming ceremony held in Ulsan, South Korea. It is registered in Liberia, is 335m long and has a beam of 51m.}

^{This ship is the first of a 12 ship order placed by HMM back in June of 2021. Among the twelve, orders for six ships were placed at Hanwha Ocean and the remaining six at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.}

^{The new ships are LNG ready and feature advanced energy saving technologies that have been implemented to reduce emissions and increase efficiency. All the ships also feature a smart ship solution in which operational data of the ship is transmitted in real time to HMM’s fleet control center. This enables the control center to optimize the operations of its fleet.}

^{The vessel will be deployed beginning in February on the East Coast 1 route. The ship will visit Kaohsiung, Xiamen, Yantian, Shanghai, Ningbo, Busan, Yantian, New York, Norfolk, Charleston, Savannah, and Singapore as part of its rotation on the route.}

^{With the delivery of all twelve vessels, HMM will reach a capacity of more than a million TEU. Around 80% of HMM’s fleet will consist of ships with a capacity greater than 10,000 TEU.}
