The House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources, (Upstream),last week in Abuja called on the NNPC to make public the daily crude oil production.
The Chairman of the Committee; Rep. Muraina Ajibola said this during an oversight visit to the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR).
Ajibola expressed regret that the situation where the nation’s daily crude oil production data were shrouded in secrecy was detrimental to the economy.
He said that a situation where different figures would be coming from the data given by the officials of the NNPC and the DPR was unacceptable.
The lawmaker also called on the corporation to ensure that daily reports of the volume of crude lifted out of the country were made public.
In a response, Mr Austine Olorunsola, DPR Managing Director, assured the lawmakers that daily production data would be posted on the department's website in the next two weeks.
“We have begun to work on the need to make the nation’s crude export to be as transparent as possible.
“In the next two weeks, all data needed would be forwarded to you and placed on our website.
“People will not even need to have password to access the website; after all daily production data are made public on website by some other oil producing countries in the world,’’ he said.
On differences in pump prices of petroleum products across the country, Olorunsola said that officially, there should not have been differences.
According to him, the official price of PMS stands at N97 per litre across the country but there are reports that some filling stations are selling above the recommended pump price.
He said that he had directed his directors and inspectors across the country to arrest any erring station that sold above the recommended pump price.
“Officially, there is no disparity; it is only that Nigerians are the ones doing themselves. I have personally instructed that any station selling above the official pump price be sealed-up,’’ he said.
