The newly- elected president of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Major General Umar Tudunwada Usman (retd) has said that part of his action plan as the new president of the institute is to use his wealth of experience and military connection to influence and penetrate government in achieving the objectives of the institute.

General Usman who emerged as the new president of the institute in an election conducted in Lagos last week said that his interest to serve as the president of the institute was borne out of the fact that he has held several challenging leadership positions in the Nigerian Army and acquired 30 years experience in managing human and material resources.
According to a copy of his proposed action plan which was made available to Shipping Position Daily, General Usman said that "haven attended the position of eminence in the society, I will use the opportunity to establish close contact with international bodies and also influence, not only the military, but the general public for better impact on the CILT Nigeria" he said.
Apart from this, he promised to pursue an aggressive mobilization of stakeholders for the enactment of the National Assembly Act establishing the institute and to also ensure publicity of the institute and its activities through events creation.
In order to improve on the funds of the institute, General Usman said that there will be “development of the CILT website to enhance contact with both national and international bodies. It will also serve as electronic storage of information about CILT Nigeria”.
He also added that he will propel CILT to liaise “with logistics and transport industry for their support to the institute at the same time providing them with the expertise and modern concepts in support of their operations, revival of professional and newsletter publications of CILT to instill sense of belonging into members thereby raising their commitments to the activities and aspirations of the institute”
The new helmsman also gave his antecedents saying that he had before now commanded the Nigerian Army School of supply and transport; and was deputy commandant and director of studies at the Nigerian Army College of Logistics (NACOL) Lagos.
“From NACOL,  I was posted to the Nigerian Army Corps of supply and transport and I was appointed the overall commander. I also served as the chief of logistics of the Nigerian Army; I served in the council of CILT and led the Nigerian delegation to Ghana during the CILT International conference”, he stressed.
