Following the removal of its formal president, Mr. Lucky Amiwero, the Institute of Transport Administration (IOTA), Nigeria now has a new president. She is Mrs. Mulikat Fehintola Sanni.
The new president has been mandated by the board of trustees of the institute to pilot the affairs of the institute through for the next nine months when proper elections into different post will hold.

The new president has been mandated by the board of trustees of the institute to pilot the affairs of the institute through for the next nine months when proper elections into different post will hold.
While speaking at her maiden parley with the media in Lagos last week, Mrs. Sanni lamented the dearth of professionalism in the transport sector, saying that the inconsistency in government policies has been the bane of the Nigerian transport sector.
According to her, the negligence of the government to the transport sector coupled with the inefficiency of services remains a major obstacle to social and economic development in the country and that those appointed into key positions of the sector are not the right individuals.
Speaking further, she said “it is obvious to state categorically that the inadequacy and poor conditions of our national transport and infrastructures coupled with the inefficiency of the services remain to be the major obstacles to our general economic and social development, the dearth of professionals within the ministry and its agencies aggravated this situation”.
Describing the transport sector as the engine room for commercial activities in the country, Mrs. Sanni added her voice to the on-going clamor for the passage of the lingering bills before the National Assembly; especially the National Transport Commission (NTC) Bill which have failed to scale through.
According to her, the successful implementation of the first transport policy when endorsed would bring about a marked improvement in the envisaged turn- around of the transport sector development before 2020 and beyond.
She advised that the government should focus its attention on the implementation of harmonized transport policies, the important relationship linking the agriculture and mining industry to the development of roads, air, railways, pipelines and the maritime transport modes.
She advised the government to appoint the right people in the right position as it will be a veritable tool to project the transport sector to the immeasurable height as the institution is there to assist in terms of training the student to core professionals.
