Members of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) Western Zone last week commenced the sale of kerosene at N50 per liter in their filling stations in Lagos and Ilorin respectively.
IPMAN, in a statement, said filling stations of its members were strictly complying with the stipulated price and were selling a maximum of20 litre per person.

Commenting on the association’s monitoring exercise, the Assistant Secretary, IPMAN Western Zone, Mr. Toba Shinkaye, said the association considered it necessary to ensure that independent marketers who had the products sell at the regulatory price.
He said that about 20 trucks were allocated to them and all the marketers under the satellite depot shared the volume among themselves to ensure every member got product in their tanks Shinkaye said the essence of the visitation to some filling stations selling kerosene at N 50 per liter was to demonstrate to government what the Western Zone had been agitating for, adding that if the product was given directly to them it would reach the grass roots.
It, however, noted that the feat would not be achieved if the product was given to it through the IPMAN national body.
He said the zone was closer to the masses, and understood the best model to adopt to make the product available to them at the appropriate price.
Shinkaye said, “We want members of the public to benefit from the official rate of N 50 and if government can sustain the supply we are sure and confident that the product will get to the target market, which is the ordinary people on the street.
“About 20 trucks of kerosene were shared among our members under the satellite depot in Lagos alone.”
In Ilorin, the Zonal Chairman of the association, Mr. OlumideOgunmade, said it was possible to sell kerosene at N50 per liter to Nigerians.
According to him, Nigerians are suffering and all efforts should be made to reduce the cost of products in the oil and gas sector to make life more meaningful to the citizens.
He urged the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation to continue to improve on the provision and distribution of kerosene in the country.
Ogunmade was represented by the Western zonal auditor, Mr.JimohBakare, during the monitoring of compliance for the sale of the product at N50 per liter by a task force in Ilorin.
He said, “It is possible and true that kerosene can be sold at N50 per liter in this country. NNPC has been trying and we need more from the corporation. In as much as the product is available, IPMAN is ready to sell at N50. The masses are happy. Consumers are happy to buy at the rate of N50 per liter of kerosene.”
