A socio-political organisation; Itsekiri Leaders of Thought (ILOT) has called on the Nigerian Maritime and Safety Administration (NIMASA) to conduct a thorough probe into the circumstances surrounding the recent sinking of a Tug-boat, Jascon 4, 30 nautical miles of the Escravos.
They also demand that an autopsy be carried out on all the 11 crew member of the boat in the presence of their families while adequate compensation be paid to the families of the deceased persons to cushion the effect of the hard conditions of life now forced on them by the untimely loss of their loved ones and bread winners.
They expressed regret that instead of addressing these salient issues Chevron and Seatrucks, the operators of the sunk Jascon 4 are busy trading blames as to the cause of the unfortunate accident, even as they wondered why families of the deceased persons are yet to be formally informed of what happened to their bread winners, saying that the negligent act cannot be swept under the carpet.
These demands were contained in a release issued in Warri, Delta State and signed by Pa. JOS Ayomike, Chaiman/leader; Chief Isaac Jimide, Deputy; Chief Elemi Rewane, Treasurer and Mr. Edward Ekpoko, secretary respectively .
The ill-fated Jascon 4, belonging to Seatrucks (West African Ventures Limited) sank recently killing 11 crew members.
