· Retains NIMASA DG, Akpobolokemi
The musical chair which has characterized the Nigerian maritime sector was yesterday put to work as President Goodluck Jonathan removed the headships of two most prominent agencies. He was however milder with the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) whose director general, Mr Ziakede Akpobolokemi was retained.
However, the President approved the appointment of Mr Habibu Abdullahi as the new Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).
The Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Dr Reuben Abati, said in a statement, in Abuja, that Abdullahi replaced Mr Omar Suleiman who had been relieved of his appointment.
The new managing director, who hails from Kano State, was until yesterday, NPA’s Acting Executive Director (Finance & Administration).
He holds a Bachelors Degree in Political Science and Masters Degree in Public Administration.
The President also approved the appointment of three Executive Directors for the organisation.
They are Mr David Omonibeke, Marine & Operations; Mr Mohammmed Saleh, Engineering & Technical Services; and Mr Olumide Oduntan, Finance & Administration.
Similarly, the President approved the appointment of three Executive Directors for the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
They are Capt. Ezekiel Agaba, Maritime Safety & Shipping Development; Mr Obi Nwabueze, Maritime Labour & Cabotage Services; and Mr Baba Jauro, Finance & Administration.
The statement said that the appointments took immediate effect.
The form er MD was appointed in December, 2010, the same day Mr Akpobookemi was appointed as the DG of NIMASA.
