Lekki Port LFTZ Enterprise Limited (LPLEL), the promoters of Lekki Deep Sea Port, has commissioned a state-of-the-art Police Station within the port premises to enhance security infrastructure for both the port and its host communities.
The commissioning ceremony which took place recently drew attendance from the management and staff of Lekki Port, Lekki Freeport Terminal, and members of the surrounding communities.
Speaking at the event, Lekki Port Managing Director, Wang Qiang, represented by Operations Director Yang Xixiong, described the new police station as a crucial addition to the port’s security framework. He emphasized that ensuring a safe and secure environment is essential to the port’s continued growth and efficiency.
“Ports are dynamic hubs of global trade, necessitating strong security measures to safeguard goods, people, and infrastructure. As we expand operations, maintaining a secure environment remains fundamental to our success,” Wang stated.
He further noted that the police station is not just a physical structure but a reflection of Lekki Port’s commitment to proactive security, law enforcement support, and the overall safety of the host communities. The facility, he explained, will serve as a central hub for policing operations, equipped to tackle the complex security challenges within the port.
Wang also highlighted the collaboration between Lekki Port and the Nigerian Police as a model for effective partnerships in enhancing security. “This police station will provide dedicated space for law enforcement officers to perform their duties efficiently, respond to incidents promptly, and maintain a visible presence throughout the port area. It will also improve coordination with other agencies to ensure swift and effective responses to security challenges,” he added.
Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police Western Command, Ibrahim Maikaba, expressed appreciation to Lekki Port’s management for its support in constructing the facility. He assured that the Police Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property within the Free Trade Zone, in alignment with regulations governing commercial activities at the port.
Maikaba disclosed that officers deployed to the new division have been briefed to work closely with the port’s management, the surrounding community, and other stakeholders. He stressed that the Nigerian Police Force is implementing strategic security measures, including crime mapping, proactive crime prevention, and thorough investigations to ensure law enforcement at the highest standards.
He also made a request for a patrol van to enhance the division’s capacity to respond swiftly to distress calls and security incidents, aligning with global best practices.
Assuring stakeholders of the effective utilization of the facility, Maikaba pledged that the police division would uphold transparency, accountability, professionalism, and respect for fundamental human rights in its operations.
