There are strong indications that the demand for the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) commonly known as cooking gas in Nigeria has appreciated tremendously even as marketers and distributors of the commodity has said that the demand has led to an increase in price of cooking gas.
Speaking with Shipping Position Daily in Lagos last week, President of the Nigeria Liquefied Petroleum Gas Association, Alhaji Auwalu Ilu confirmed that as a result of the crisis in the kerosene market, more households are beginning to be exposed to the use of cooking gas and that this has led to an increase in its demand.
Auwalu also said that the price of cooking gas has started increasing gradually due to the increase in demand.
Apart from this, he confirmed that demand for cooking gas is always high whenever the year is coming to an end.
“We are approaching the winter now and summer is gradually winding up, so people have started storing the product in preparation for the winter period”, he explained.
He said that even though the price of the LPG has not increased substantially, it is increasing steadily and the increase is still expected to continue.
Investigations carried out by our correspondent at gas refilling stands showed that the price of the 12.5kg of cooking gas which was formerly N2, 400 in Lagos is now between N2, 700 and N2, 800.
The price of the 6kg of LPG on the other hand which formerly sold for N1, 400 is now N1, 600.
