The canteen was first sealed up in 2012 by a combined team of Customs and the Police and since then there had been two raids within its vicinity, leading to the arrest and subsequent arraignment in court of several port user; including licensed customs agents for wandering.

The canteen was first sealed up in 2012 by a combined team of Customs and the Police and since then there had been two raids within its vicinity, leading to the arrest and subsequent arraignment in court of several port user; including licensed customs agents for wandering.
But Shipping Position Daily confirmed last week that the real reason for the constant raid is the interests that have been shown in the choice property by foremost Danish company; Maersk Line and Port and Terminal Multiservices Limited [PTML].
The duo are said to be in hot contention to be in possession of the land for the expansion of their business interests in the port.
Our source who is a staff of [PTML] whom pleaded anonymity disclosed to our correspondent that the company has been eyeing the canteen and that is why they are trying to get rid of occupants and other port users that normally visit the place.
According to him; PTML handles more containers now than before, even as he added that the place has been leased out to the company for more than two years and that very soon, demolition of the structure would commence.
He noted that container traffic at PTML terminal at the Tin can Island port has improved, hence the need to acquire more stacking area.
He also recalled that some portion of the company’s storage facilities was leased out to APMT in 2011 and added that the company is ready to terminate that agreement in 2013 in order to make us of the facility.
However, another source told our correspondent that the place has been leased out to Maersk Line to tackle the issue complaint by freight forwarders.
The source who disclosed this also added that as a result of the development, some of the company’s vessels calling at the Tin Can port of Ports and Terminal Multiservices Limited [PTML] have caused hiccup. According to him, about 40% of vessels that berth at the PTML belong to the Danish owned company.
The source also acknowledged that ‘’Anyman ‘’ canteen has been known for been a notorious spot at the Tin Can Island port for years, adding that it is because of the latest move to lease the property to the concessionaire that led to the raids and the decision to seal it up.
Our source also recalled that in 2011 Maersk Line and PTML reached an agreement for vessels belonging to Maersk Line to berth at the PTML terminal at Tin Can Island port, a development which has also made the PTML to extend its yard capacity and storage facilities to accommodate Maersk Line consignments.
