 NAGAFF Lauds Police For Interfering In Container Blockage By Shipping Companies

The National Association of the Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) has lauded the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Maritime Command, AIG Alkali Baba Usman for his resolve to streamline rampant issuance of letters to shipping companies and terminal operators to block containers from being released.

National President of NAGAFF, Chief Increase Uche who spoke when the AIG paid a familiarization visit to the association’s headquarters in Lagos recently also said that the move would go a long way to check the abuses of the general duties of the junior police officers.

He also applauded the decision of the command to relocate the office of the Ports Commissioner of Police to the ports, adding that it is a positive move towards bringing governance closer to the people.

“We want to affirm that your visit to this compound came at the right time when the government is bent on addressing the numerous challenges in the maritime industry through the executive order on the ease of doing business reform of the sector. We see this as a welcomed development and have always thrown our weight behind government’s efforts at providing enabling environment for businesses to thrive.

NAGAFF is also happy at the effort made from your office to compliment government efforts in bringing order and sanity at the ports. We commend your resolve to streamline the rampant issuance of letters to shipping companies, terminal operators and other government authorities to block containers from being released. You letter on this particular challenges will go a long way to check the abuses of the general duties of the junior police officers which I mentioned as part of our challenges for now”, he said.

He reiterated that the relocation of the office of the Commissioner of Police,  Western Ports from Marina to Apapa has helped in the reduction of criminal activities in the ports. 

“Again your decision to relocate the Commissioner of Police, Ports from his office at Marina to Apapa is being appreciated in bringing governance bearer to the people. This has also greatly enhanced security and close monitoring of activities at ports. I want to let you know that this singular approach has helped to reduce criminal activities of the touts within the ports environment”

He also promised the continuous collaboration of the association with the police to ensure sanity at the ports.
